It is vitally important for assessments and diagnosis to be done as early as possible and the support packages should be done as part of this process. I had to wait 4.5 years for my eldest sons diagnosis, the waiting time when he went on the list was 7 years! He would of been out of education by that point. A year is too long, let alone multiple years. |

Good. As a mum to 2 asd children, I feel the bill is vitally needed. There is no support for children or adults and their families before, during or after a diagnosis. We were on the waiting list for 4.5 years before my eldest son was diagnosed, which was only last year when he was 12! This is way too long to wait for an assessment and diagnosis. It is also too late, my son has his own coping strategies and we as a family have muddled through by ourselves. But we shouldn't have to and there should be support for the autistic person and their families right from the word go. My youngest son is nearly 5 and is waiting to see a paediatrician as we and professionals believe he is on the spectrum, once again we have go prepare for a fight, we shouldn't have to |
